Faith
“Trusting in something you cannot explicitly prove”, that is one of the definitions’ of the word faith. Have you ever sat down and thought about faith. While driving the other day, I started thinking about this word. If you really think about it, the meaning goes very deep. We all have faith in things big and small. Even people who don’t believe in a higher power have faith. Don’t believe me? Everyone that gets in their car and drives to work, have faith that they will get there without being in an accident. If you plan a vacation for June in January, you have faith that you will not only live to go, but be healthy enough to enjoy your trip. People that plan a wedding, have faith that their bond will remain strong. Do you have a retirement plan, then you have faith that you will live to spend it. If we plan anything, we have faith that we will be here to carry out the plan.
Everything that is not happening right this second, cannot be proved; it hasn’t happened yet. So we all live by faith. Why can’t we accept that? Not only accept the fact that we live by faith, but be grateful.
Leap of Faith
Gratitude, “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness”. Look at the meaning of gratitude, to return to kindness. Wow, if we all could just return to kindness. It costs nothing to be kind. Smile at a stranger, it may just be the small gesture of kindness that person needed to brighten their day.
One way we could show a little kindness everyday is not to participate in gossip. There are so many more pleasant things to talk about, why spread rumors of things that you know little to nothing about. Gossip destroys peoples marriages, careers, and life. I know that it is hard not to gossip especially if you are with a group of people, and we all have this childlike desire to “belong”. But, what if instead of participating in gossip, you change the subject, start talking about a great piece of art you saw, or the latest mini series you watched. I know there will probably be another person in that group that is relieved because they were too afraid to veer away from the gossip themselves.
Kindness to another human being
That is all this week, short and sweet. Remember to accept the fact that we all live by faith every day, be grateful for this day and all the blessing we have, and just be kind one to another. To quote Wayne Dyer, “We are all spiritual beings having a human experience”. Let’s start acting like it.
