Women over 40
Most women do not look forward to getting older. I truly believe social media as well as media in general, have a lot to do with the negativity surrounding aging among women. Most of the popular movies have young women in their twenties or early thirties cast in the leading roles. Look at all the commercials, young women once again, and not only are the women either late teens or early twenties, most are skinny with the perfect complexion.
It is almost like once you turn forty plus, you are put over on a shelve somewhere; your thoughts or opinions don’t matter anymore. The thing that people fail to acknowledge is that with age, comes wisdom. When we are young, we strive for perfection, putting unrealistic goals on ourselves that can lead to frustration and depression. The older we get, the more we embrace our unique imperfections, realizing that imperfect can be beautiful.
By the time we reach forty, we realize that our existence doesn’t rely on another person to make us important, we are important in our own right. Our happiness isn’t linked to that one great love, we are the creator of our own happiness.
When I was in my twenties and thirties, I was concerned about what others thought about me, once I turned forty, it didn’t really matter to me what others thought, and I now realize “they” probably aren’t thinking about me at all. How empowering this knowledge is.
By the time women turn forty, hopefully they begin to realize that there are more important things than “the perfect” body. For instance, being healthy by choosing healthy foods and staying active. We now also realize that other women are not our enemies, and that we should hold each other up and celebrate one another’s accomplishments.
Women in their forties, fifties, sixties, plus, find happiness and fulfillment in connections with friends and family, their work, and their passions. Women in this age group have no time or tolerance for drama.
I read the following quote somewhere and it is so very true, “Women in their 20’s think they are sexy, women in their 30’s say they are sexy, but women who are above the age of 40, no longer have to think or say it, They Own It”.
Shout Out to all the women in their 40’s and above, be proud of where you are today, never stop dreaming or believing. Remember all our accomplishments and remember to reach out to those that need our guidance, we have a lot of knowledge to share.
